Samwer
When he heard about the first accessible LLM for the general public, he knew he had to hop on the wave. Alexander Gianni Constantin Samwer is a 17-year-old from Munich, Germany, who is passionate about innovation and transformation, particularly related to Artificial Intelligence. With the first launch of OpenAI’s GPT-based language model, Gianni’s journey into exploring applications, obstacles, and moral considerations of AI usage started. He translated his passion into building a podcast with over 20,000 downloads, where he interviews industry experts and fosters collaborative discussions regarding those topics. He was most recently invited as a Youth Delegate to attend UN General Assembly Week 2024.
The Story
One of his most important lessons learned is how important collaboration with people is. At one of his AI Unleashed offline events, he taught immigrants how to use AI (specifically, OpenAI’s GPT) to help with legal work. During that workshop, and by having long, detailed discussions with some of the refugees, he realized that there was much more than just the language barrier that troubled some of the participants. He got inspired to build a tool specifically designed to help immigrants and less-privileged citizens in Germany with legal documents. During the development stage, he frequently consulted with his previous workshop’s attendees, and every discussion taught him how much a feedback - loop and being on the ground helps defy internal biases and assumptions. He hopes that this lesson will help him with his future endeavors as well.
Beyond his podcast and his offline community, Gianni strives to work for his community and contribute to intercultural exchange through his volunteer work at the UNICEF youth delegation and the Model United Nations (MUN) club. At UNICEF, Gianni contributes to various projects aimed at improving children's lives globally, and he is particularly involved in projects involving advocacy for children in need. As a MUN ambassador, he is mainly working on drafting resolutions. His role in developing Astyk Market, an agricultural sector B2B e-commerce platform, is creating buzz in its intended market of Central Asia. Lately, he even started hosting off-line events and teached immigrants how to leverage AI in their everyday lives to improve their quality of life. These initiatives showcase his dedication to making technology accessible and beneficial to everyone.
Gianni’s IB Higher Level subjects include Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI), Physics, and Economics, which reflect his strong analytical skills and his desire to understand and innovate within complex systems.
Looking ahead, Gianni aspires to study computer science at university, where he hopes to further his knowledge and contribute to the field of AI and technology, and learn how to use it to create long-term change.
